I was nothing short of excited when Gabrielle’s mom contacted me to photograph their October wedding at The Lafayette Market in Downtown Pontiac, Michigan. Heck, I practically grew up on Pontiac while working at my godfather’s catering hall just across the street as a teenager! I loved getting to know Gabrielle and Orhan purely through Facebook at the beginning: both tagging each other in the most hilarious and ridiculous videos describing each other and their relationship! It made me even more excited about their wedding day that was fast approaching!
Of course, every bride and photographer anxiously watch the weather as the last week until the wedding arrives. Michigan weather did not fail to give us the run-around calling for rain one day, then clear skies the next. The day before the wedding however, it was almost certain that it would rain on October 14th, thus derailing the plan for Gabrielle and Orhan to get married on the rooftop overlooking Downtown Pontiac. But we did NOT let the rain rain on our parade! They moved the ceremony indoors, we took the majority of our photos outside under the awnings outside the cafe, and we even ventured out into the rain with some umbrellas for more photos after the ceremony. And everything was absolutely beautiful!
I’d have to say my favorite part of the day was when Gabrielle’s mom, Kim, saw her for the first time. I was crying when it happened, then cried all over again while editing the photos! When I first met Gabrielle in person, she gushed about how amazing her mom had been about helping plan the wedding. After seeing everything come together, I can see why! It was just such a sweet moment between mother and daughter, another reminder of why I love my job so much!
