School’s out and the weather is warming up which means it’s time to plan your summer road trip! Michigan has some AMAZING spots to see that are only a few hours away! Below is a list of my top 7 recommendations of places to visit around the Mitten this summer. Even better: book a destination photo shoot at one of these places to get photos that are unlike anyone else’s in your area! I do waive travel fees to a few of these places, so let me know if you’re interested.

      1. Traverse City
The Cherry Festival takes place the first week in July. Plus they have a zillion different wine, brewery, and sightseeing tours you can go on! Stop by Three Fires Winery to visit some longtime friends of mine and taste some of their amazing Michigan-made wine!
      2. Frankenmuth
If you haven’t tried the all-you-can-eat chicken buffet at Zehnder’s, you haven’t lived! As if you need another reason to visit, you can also tour the town via kayak and visit the world’s largest Christmas store: Bronner’s!
      3. Grand Rapids
I love this city! There is so much to do, you literally need to stay for at least a week! It’s a great place for food lovers because of all the unique restaurants popping up all over town. One of my favorites is Little Lucy’s Cafe – try the Ring of Fire pancake…you’ll thank me! Frederik Meijer Gardens is another favorite place of mine, so many beautiful flowers in one place!
      4. Mackinaw Island
Everyone should visit Mackinaw at least once in their life. One word: FUDGE. There’s an entire festival for it in August! I also highly recommend taking a bicycle tour of the island. It’s a little over 8 miles around, so maybe wait to eat your fudge until afterwards 😉 My favorite part is that there are NO vehicles allowed on the island. It really just puts you back in time and helps you relax!
      5. Pictured Rocks
I haven’t been here yet, but it’s near the top of my bucket list! It’s so drop dead gorgeous and kayaking around it looks like so much fun! It’s also a National Park, so you can say you’ve visited one right here in your home state. Plus, driving through the UP is really pretty! AND they have pasties in the UP…enough said!
      6. Detroit
You may be thinking to yourself, “This isn’t really a road trip.” Well maybe not to most of the people reading this, but so many people don’t know about all the fun things to do down there! Taking a stroll down the River Walk is one of my favorite things to do. There are also some really cool photography/film tours you can take of the old abandoned buildings and areas around town!
      7. Grayling
This is a personal one I’m adding since this is where my in-law’s family cabin is on the Au Sable River. The river offers so many activities like fly-fishing, kayaking, canoeing, or my in-law’s favorite: floating down the river with some cold drinks and soaking up the rays! While there, you HAVE to visit Gates Lodge, or better yet, stay there! Every time we go Up North we stop here to pick up some fly-fishing gear, chat with the guides about what the fish are doing on the river, and eat the BEST meal around! In fact, mention the Pregler family and they will probably know who you are talking about 🙂

What are your favorite places to visit around Michigan? I’m always looking for new places to visit and shoot!
