Emi was a part of my sister’s sorority in college at Grand Valley and they have remained close over the years including being bridesmaids in each other’s weddings! Some days, Emi looks more like my own sister than I do! I was SO excited when Emi asked my sister about having me do their maternity portraits while she was in town for their baby shower! I mean, do you see how gorgeous this couple is? Of course I wanted to! Plus I am always down for a quick drive to Grand Rapids with my daughter to see Aunt Lizzy and Uncle Adam!
Emi and Eric chose to have their portraits done on her family’s property out in Ada. I’m always a little nervous shooting at a location I’ve never been to before, but was absolutely thrilled when I pulled up to this house! The colors were perfect and there were a bunch of really pretty spots around the yard that allowed us to get a lot of variety in the images. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky that allowed for the most beautiful light for the whole session!
My favorite part of the session was at the end when Emi asked for the classic “dad kissing the belly” shot (one of my favorites!). I pulled Eric aside shortly beforehand and told him to get down on one knee, kiss the bump, and then tell the baby one wish he has for it’s future. As Eric began to talk to the baby, Emi asked him, “Are you trying to make me cry???” I replied, “Yes!” It was such a sweet moment, I walked away wiping tears from my eyes, too.
I am SO glad that Emi and Eric took advantage of my Christmas in July sale this summer and bundled a maternity shoot with a newborn session, so I’ll get to photograph this sweet family again next year after their little man has arrived!
